The European Commission created a platform inviting the cities and regions to share their stories and experiences, both positive and negative ones, regarding cross-border cooperation during the Covid-19 crisis.
Below is the transcript of the TREASURE project story published on COVID-19 Exchange Platform.
ICT helping to stop the spread of COVID-19
“The whole world has been marked by a pandemic that has changed many things that we considered a natural part of life and forced us to adapt to new living and working conditions. COVID-19 and the establishment of the state of emergency and the associated restrictions have hit hard in all areas of the economy, including tourism, and have significantly changed people’s daily lives, habits and priorities.
In support of the European Commission’s initiative on cross-border cooperation during the COVID-19 crisis, “#EuropeansAgainstCovid19 Cross-Border Cooperation2, Ungheni District Council has been displaying information and recommendations on reducing the risk of COVID-19, and also promoting tourist attractions in the Ungheni region, on an LED screen purchased as part of a project financed by the European Union through the European Neighbourhood Instrument’s Black Sea Basin 2014-2020 Joint Operational Programme: Joint Cultural Heritage – Source for Development of Entrepreneurship in the Black Sea basin (TREASURE, BSB371).
The LED screen has been placed on Independence Square in the centre of the town of Ungheni – the administrative seat of the district – and now displays information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This ensures that the public have free and unhindered access to useful information, even if they do not have internet connections or IT equipment. And one more person informed about how to reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19 means one less patient in a hospital bed.”
