The Greek Islands are one of the most popular cruising and sailing regions in the world – a yachting and general boating paradise. For the tourists who intend to travel throughout the North Aegean Islands from the Thracian Sea, the Greek beneficiary, Alexandroupolis Port Authority, of the project Sailing across the Black Sea (SaBS) prepared a detailed material for a pleasant and relaxed journey.
The pilot book targets 9 ports; 6 along Thracian coast starting from Alexandroupolis and 3 from Samothrace and Thassos islands. It contains information on docking procedures, mooring, port traffic, fuel, repairs, prevailing winds, and useful contact details. The material is available in English, Bulgarian, Georgian and Greek languages.
Further, digital maps of each targeted ports (as long as for the Thracian Sea) are ready for use and with the mobile application “Avenza Maps” you can navigate through areas with no signal only GPS.
The instructions for downloading and installing the software and corresponding material are as follows:
1. Download the desired map(s) from here.
2. Download the Avenza Maps app (ignore this step if you already have the app installed), which is free on:
– Play Store (Android)
– App Store (iPad, iPhone)
– Windows Phone Store (Windows Mobile).
3. Open the app and add/import the map file(s) downloaded in step 1.
4. Activate your GPS and see your location appearing on the map with a blue dot.
Finally, a complete and fully updated tourist guide for promoting tourism routes in the East Macedonia and Thrace region is ready for use, with descriptions and photographs of destinations that interest yacht owners. The material is available in English and Greek languages and can be downloaded here.
May you have fair winds and following seas!
