In November 2021, the American University of Armenia held a three-day training on Earth Observation and Environmental Monitoring for young scientists and practitioners.
Byala Municipality is located in the central part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
The event was organised by the Ukrainian PONTOS team and the staff of the Regional Centre for Integrated Monitoring and Environmental Studies of Odesa and National I.I. Mechnikov University, and held online on 27-28 October 2021. The training participants represented regional and local administrations, non-governmental organisations, water management and nature protection agencies. However, the topic attracted the greatest interest from the younger generation – young lecturers, researchers, postgraduates, master’s students and, of course, practitioners working in the Ukrainian pilot area. In total, 50 participants attended this event.
The first training session on “Exploitation of Earth Observation Satellite Systems Data” was held virtually on 13- 14 October by the PONTOS partners in Greece Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) and the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH).
The project Developing Ecotourism Net in Black Sea region ECOTOUR-NET (BSB79) is proposing to develop eco-tourism activities in 5 regions from Turkey, Ukraine, Greece, Georgia and Bulgaria introducing 18 routes (10 cycling, 6 hiking, 2 educational tour routes) and 48 locations (4 bird watching and 32 recreational location, 10 photobank and 2 local products selling locations).
Part of the environmental education programme, the partners from the project Leave your Environmentalist Spirit Online for the Black Sea Basin – Spirit BSB Online (BSB1064) developed an online application available in the Google Play and App Store. The game aims at raising awareness of causes and consequences and promoting a change in attitude and behaviour.
The Municipality of Orestiada has finalized the technical interventions in the Karatheodoris Exhibition Centre in Vyssa. Following the statics study, the project partner is heading towards the end of the technical works for the re-organization of the center.
The beneficiaries of the project Sailing accross the Black Sea – SaBS (BSB240) identified, definied and advanced 6 routes, 2 for each country: Greece, Bulgaria and Georgia. The partnership of the project Eco-Conscious Minds to Stop Pollution in the Valuable Wetlands of Black Sea Basin BIOLEARN (BSB142) developed a training set containing 12 separate courses aiming to highlight the importance of wetlands, to prevent pollution in wetlands and to develop ecological literacy of the participants accordingly in the Black Sea basin area.
