The interactive database developed by the beneficiaries of the project Zero Waste Strategy for Good Environmental Status, consists of two main data sets, namely, Marine Litter Watch (MLW) data and Ecosystem Education Program (EEP) data.
MLW data covers beach litter monitoring data. The monitoring is done every three months (each season) at the targeted beaches from each partner countries. The Collected litters are classified in line with EU Marine Litter Monitoring Legislation and recorded to investigate trends and sources of marine litter. The preventive measure are then intended to propose according to the trends and sources. Up to now, 5 monitorings were completed and their data were entered into the MLW database, which can be outputted as pie chart or excel file. These data is shared with all related institution / decision makers to decide the appropriate preventive measures.
EEP data consist of ecosystem training videos, guides, game, brochure, poster, surveys for ecosystem awareness level before and after. The education program is available in four languages (Turkish, Bulgarian, Georgian, Ukrainian).
The aim of EEP database is to raise the awareness on ecosystem among 7-16 aged students, their teachers, local people and fishermen in order to reduce litter production, particularly plastic.
The interactive database is regularly updated and controlled by the Marine Environment Coordinator of ZEWSGES Project.
The institutions or people which are in charge with (local governments, municipalities) or affected by the beach cleaning (fishermen, local people) can use these data profitable to adopt preventive measures or keep the beach clean. Beside the database, a marine litter monitoring methodology was developed in line with the EU legislation. This methodology can used for local authorities and become widespread by other regions.
As for the EEP, all ecosystem training material are available for students, teachers, and researchers. This material can be used by teachers, researchers, etc. or in the curriculum to raise awareness among students.
The interactive database is still in the development stage.
