This year’s Black Sea Action Day has arrived while the world is facing the coronavirus pandemic, a global epidemic unlike any other most of us have experienced. National Institute for Marine Research and Development “Grigore Antipa” from Romania and Turkish Marine Research Foundation from Turkey, beneficiaries of the project “Assessing the vulnerability of the Black Sea marine ecosystem to human pressures – ANEMONE”, invited online the stakeholders to celebrate, discuss, brainstorm together the Strategic Action Plan for the Rehabilitation and Protection of the Black Sea.
On 29 October 2020, lead beneficiary, National Institute for Marine Research and Development “Grigore Antipa“ reached 50 years of continuous activity and an event was organised online, back to back with International Black Sea Day.
Along with the past, present and future achievements, the lead beneficiary presented to the participants the concrete actions developed for environmental protection and to improve joint environmental monitoring and discussed the current scientific findings, ongoing projects and potential solutions in safeguarding Black Sea biodiversity and in transforming the Black Sea into a sustainable marine resource.

On 31 October 2020, Turkish Marine Research Foundation invited the leaders, activists, scientists and policy makers to celebrate the Black Sea Action Day together in a Regional Conference.
The discussions were focused on: Scientific findings and efforts in preserving marine habitats and ecosystems; Climate change impacts on the marine environment, potential socio-economic impacts to Black Sea coastal communities and adaptation efforts; The critical role of the Black Sea in ensuring food security and supporting local livelihoods; Civil society development and influence; Aquaculture as the main component of a Blue Economy International and national ambitions around the Sustainable Development Goals.
