The International Children’s day was celebrated in Strandzha Nature Park, Bulgaria during an eco-camp. From 31 May to 1 of June, the first tent eco-camp for children aged 7 to 14 years was organized as part of the Green Strandja NGO activities under the project MARLENA: Marine and River Litter Elimination New Approach (BSB139).
11 children took part in sports and educational games among nature gained new knowledge about nature parks and protected areas in Strandzha, conservation of biodiversity, history of the region and mountaineering. The preparation of food near the campfire, the sleeping of a tent under the stars in the scent of the flowers and herbs in Strandzha, the joyful school and the fun games – a rope trolley, bow and ball shooting, the Veleka River trip left unforgettable memories in the children.
During the camp, the children participated in sports and educational games in the nature, learned how to use a compass, how many and what were the reserves in Strandzha, learned about the trash from the river to the Black Sea and visited the historical museum During the tour the children participated in an eco-campaign and collected waste along the way to the Veleka river, which flows into the Black Sea. Among the most important lessons learned from the camp, the children said is: The only place for our garbage in nature is in the backpack.
