In 1950, on 9th of May, French foreign minister, Robert Schuman presented the Schuman Declaration, proposing the creation of a European Coal and Steel Community, which was the first of a series of supranational European institutions that would ultimately become today's "European Union".
In 1990, a vision of united communities and borders to find shared solutions and tackle common challenges was born. Since then, Interreg has evolved from a small Community Initiative to a fully-fledged Cohesion Policy instrument with over €40 billion invested in more than 30,000 projects involving over 135,000 partners.
In 2025 we celebrate both 75 years since the Schuman Declaration and 35 years of Interreg.
Happy Europe Day!
Many years ahead Interreg!
