The AlgaeRevive – Harnessing Algae Power for Pollution Reduction and Blue Growth project partnership proudly announces the establishment of a new environmental research laboratory at Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov University in Burgas, Bulgaria.

This important milestone strengthens scientific capacity for algae research and supports the advancement of the blue bioeconomy across the Black Sea region.

The new laboratory will serve as a hub for interdisciplinary research exploring the potential of algae as a sustainable resource for environmental protection, biotechnology, and blue economy applications. Equipped with modern analytical instrumentation for physico-chemical, ecological, and environmental analysis of aquatic systems, the facility enables researchers to conduct advanced studies on algae communities, nutrient dynamics, and pollutant removal processes. These capabilities will support both laboratory-based investigations and field monitoring, providing valuable scientific evidence for effective aquatic ecosystem management.

The facility will play a key role in developing the project's flagship innovations, including the AlgaeSense monitoring system and the Black Sea Algae Knowledge Hub (Algae K-Hub)—a collaborative platform designed to facilitate the exchange of data, expertise, and best practices among researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders throughout the region.

By strengthening research infrastructure and fostering cross-border cooperation, the new laboratory represents not only an important achievement for Bulgaria but also a valuable contribution to the collective efforts of Black Sea countries to develop innovative, algae-based solutions for pollution reduction and a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient marine environment.
