According to the Acting Together for Greener Cities (GREENCITIES) project dictionary, carbon footprint means: The total greenhouse gas emissions, measured in CO₂e, that are produced directly or indirectly by human activities.
The term, first popularized in the early 2000s, originates from the broader concept of the ecological footprint.
Reducing the carbon footprint is at the heart of the GREENCITIES project. Through initiatives such as creating energy efficient kiosks, planting trees, and designing sustainable parks, project is helping partner cities lower emissions and promote climate friendly urban development. The project also supports sustainable mobility, green infrastructure, and biodiversity focused parks to further reduce environmental impact.
As part of this effort, project has launched a new interactive tool: GREENCITIES Carbon Footprint Calculator!
