The project Transnational Cooperation for Sustainable Waste Management and Recycling Practices in the Black Sea Basin (Go2Recycling, BSB00027) conducted the Training of Trainers (ToT) to strengthen sustainable waste management and recycling practices across the Black Sea Basin.

Bringing together trainers from Türkiye, Romania, Bulgaria, and Georgia, the ToT aimed to build a strong network of professionals capable of promoting responsible waste behavior among pupils, students, teachers, NGOs, local authorities, and the general public.

The four-day program was designed to strengthen participants’ expertise in waste reduction, recycling, and circular economy practices, provide hands-on experience with educational tools, awareness-raising methods, and practical demonstrations and encourage cross-border networking, idea exchange, and the planning of future collaborative initiatives across the Black Sea region.

Program Highlights

• Expert-led thematic sessions on plastic waste, pollution in the Black Sea, and the 3R principles.
• Practical laboratory trainings on plastic identification, safe recycling methods, and environmental risks associated with waste burning.
• Educational demonstrations for trainers to apply in schools, youth centers, and community programs.
• Visits to Kutaisi’s recycling and composting sites, offering real-world insights into municipal waste management.
• Networking activities, and discussions on future cooperation and joint initiatives.

Transnational collaboration is at the heart of the Go2Recycling project. By involving four countries in a shared training effort, the ToT contributes to developing a unified approach to waste reduction and recycling education, supporting behavioral change among youth and citizens amd building long-term partnerships among institutions across the region.

The Training of Trainers marks a significant step toward promoting environmentally responsible behavior in the Black Sea Basin and empowering local actors to drive change within their communities.
