FoodWISE (BSB00221) – Food Waste Patrol Ready for Action!

The Bulgarian partner of the FoodWISE project (Pilot action for increasing the capacity of local and regional administrations to develop and implement innovative food waste public awareness actions) is launching its Food Waste Patrol this summer.

From July 21 until mid-August, the patrol will be active across key beaches along the Black Sea Basin coastline—starting in Kavarna and Pomorie, and continuing through Shabla, Balchik, and Byala (Varna).

The Food Waste Patrol is an awareness campaign aimed at tackling the growing issue of food waste on the beaches during the busy summer season. The initiative encourages tourists to be more mindful of their food consumption and waste habits while on holiday.

As part of the campaign, a mobile food waste collection corner will be set up on selected beaches. Visitors will be invited to bring food waste they’ve generated during their beach stay. In return, they’ll receive snacks made from locally produced fruits, vegetables, and traditional foods from the project's participating countries: Bulgaria, Türkiye, Greece, and Georgia.

To support sustainable practices, tourists are kindly asked to bring their own containers—helping reduce packaging waste and encouraging them to save leftover food they can consume later.
