The Green Waste Composting Center, established in Kutaisi, Georgia, under the Waste Free Rivers for a Clean Black Sea (MWM-GMR BSB457) project, has achieved a significant milestone.
Since its inception in Spring 2021, the center has been actively contributing to the environmental sustainability of the community by efficiently processing green waste and transforming it into high-quality compost for soil conditioning.
Covering an area of 3000 square meters, the composting facility is designed with specific zones for each stage of the composting process, including: delivery/screening area, composting area, compost curing area, and the storage.
Each zone ensures a streamlined and efficient process, allowing for the safe and sustainable handling of green waste. The final product, the nutrient-rich compost, has been used extensively across Kutaisi to improve the quality of green spaces and urban landscaping.
In a significant achievement for the center, the National Food Agency of Georgia has officially certified the compost produced at the Green Waste Composting Center. This certification confirms that the compost is an organic fertiliser, safe and effective for soil application, and suitable for enhancing the growth of both vegetables and ornamental plants.
This certification underscores the quality of the product and provides reassurance to local communities using the compost for various agricultural and landscaping purposes.
The Green Waste Composting Center remains committed to its mission of promoting sustainable waste management practices and environmental protection. With the recent certification, the facility is poised to continue its positive impact, helping to improve soil health and support green initiatives throughout Kutaisi and beyond.
